10am Classroom
Astrology Through Astronomy, History, Geography, and Philosophy with Grace
Ages: 11+
Price: $35

Subject: Social Studies and Science
In this class students will explore 6 different cultures’ approaches to understanding the stars.  Prehistoric evidence of astrology exists, however we will be starting our journey in the second millennium BCE with Babylonian celestial omen-based astrology described in the Enuma Anu Anil.  From there we’ll venture to the Han Dynasty of Ancient China and learn how wuxing and the 10 day week affect how the stars are interpreted.  Following that we’ll explore Hindu astrology, called jyotisa, and how it influences ancient and modern cultures.  Next, we’ll touch on the beliefs found in Kabbalistic Theory literature, then how astrology was viewed in the Golden Age of Islam and how that led to the creation of Solar Hijri.  We’ll finally end on Modern, Western Astrology and what we knew before class and how our beliefs changed.

Req:  This is a comparative religion class that focuses on core belief systems and interpretations that set up today’s major world religions.  Everyone in this class will be respectful of the different and occasionally conflicting beliefs.
